It does, however, teach us a new dance move: The Cat Claw. And at the end of the film we get an even more questionable lesson: that women are actually powerless to effect "change" in their working conditions. While we're dancing, the director subtly implies that it's even possible that bosses can continue in power indefinitely. His appeal to reason: How can their fantasies go on indefinitely? Of course, they won't, in the real world, but that's not the point of his movie.
I could go on, but I've just about exhausted the repertoire of this movie. We're supposed to laugh at the women who are seduced by their bosses--but then we're asked to sympathize with them being used as sex toys! We're treated to a succession of what-can-you-do scenes where the oversexed women are served as snacks by endless parade of different men. Clearly the film puts the point of view of the men in film, and the idea that women can be co-conspirators in their own oppression. So the women get processed in a way that's really rather delicious, because it's a kind of reverse trash. There is certainly something gay about the movie--it's intended to signify the fate that awaits women who don't voluntarily submit--but it's also very clearly heterosexual. There's nothing remotely masturbatory about the voyeurism of the scene. It's a kind of sexy glamorization of passivity. It's almost like women, for the first time, are having sex as a result of being "forced" to, not because they want to.
This movie is part of the "Pi" film series, based on novels by Louis De Bernieres, the author of The 8 1/2 Women Who Broke the Bicylce. All of the characters in his books are fantasies of De Bernieres, and the stories are remarkably hard to distinguish from pornography. The movie version includes nothing but De Bernieres fantasies, except for a few bits of music and dialogue. The film is based on the story simply known as "Pi," in which a woman named "Roche" who works for a secret government organizaton in a fictitious country decides to cycle to work. d2c66b5586
