Before they began creating \"Marvel Zombie Tales,\" the first issue of which hit stands in autumn of 2008, Chris Sims and Erik Larsen had notable credits as deviant cartoonists, art directors on the savvy indie horror film anthology Trick 'r Treat and a producer of cult television. It is, therefore, perhaps a surprise to turn Sims and Larsen's two more mainstream comic creations, The Zombie Tales and Terrifiers, into what could be called \"pop-up zombie comics,\" where zombies are used to illustrate contemporary issues already in the news. In spite of, or because of, their po-mo references, their treatment of the undead in these stories is the old-fashioned horror-story way - manifestly ordinary people are not affected, ordinary weapons kill or terrify - and their comic book pages are tinged with an air of the absurd. These zombies are not scary, and they don't move a lot (maybe that's what keeps them \"zomedy.\"); they are zombified and die with a lot of camp.
So one day, I was staying in the room at the Armory in Old West Town, and it occurred to me that with the right items I could take on an adventure. So, I started to examine, and after a few hours I realized that I had everything I needed. I mean, all I needed was to get myself a pack of dogs - they were fun! So, I started to piece them together. How is it that a town with a population of only 100 has so many dogs It was then that I decided to create BEAST!
Of all the Marvel heroes, only Spider-Man could hold a candle to John \"Johny\" Romita Jr.'s work as art director and colorist, and in John Romita Jr.'s illustrated retelling of the origin of Spider-Man we see the origin of John Romita Sr., too, as a world-class draughtsman absorbed in his craft.\" - The Church of the SubGenius d2c66b5586
